Fourth Star Trek Movie Announced
As the latest installment of the revamped Star Trek movie franchise is about to be released, Paramount Pictures announced that a fourth installment of the series will also be coming.
The studio did not issue a release date but revealed that the new film will center on Kirk, played by Chris Pine, as he finally crosses paths with his father.
Chris Hemsworth, who starred as George Kirk in 2009’s “Star Trek” blockbuster, will also reprise his role in the new movie after not appearing in the last two. The rest of the current cast is expected to return as well.
The announcement comes as Star Trek: Beyond is about to hit theaters this week. The newly announced film will mark the first “Star Trek” movie without Anton Yelchin, who was tragically killed last month after his Jeep Grand Cherokee rolled down his driveway and crashed into him.
It us unknown how the studio will handle the franchise as it goes forward without Yelchin.
“Obviously right now the idea of going on without Anton is inconceivable,” co-star Simon Pegg said. “But I’m certain that Paramount would want the story to go on and if so, we’d have to find a way and it certainly would not involve recasting that character. That can not happen.”
